Project Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer to join our dynamic projects team focused on the design, development, and execution of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). As a key member of the project team, you will work closely with project managers, design engineers, and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of BESS projects from conception through commissioning. You will play a crucial role in coordinating technical activities, optimizing system designs, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

 

Essential Functions

  • Technical Support: Provide technical expertise in the design, engineering, and deployment of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems, including integration with renewable energy sources such as solar and wind.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with project managers to develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets. Ensure project milestones are met, and track progress throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Design Review: Review and approve technical designs, drawings, and specifications for BESS projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors to procure necessary equipment and services. Ensure that all deliverables meet project requirements and deadlines.
  • Site Coordination: Conduct site assessments, provide support during construction and installation, and ensure that all engineering activities are carried out in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Problem Solving: Identify potential technical and logistical challenges, propose solutions, and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks and ensure the smooth execution of projects.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct quality checks, inspections, and testing to ensure that all installations and equipment meet specified requirements and performance standards.
  • Commissioning Support: Assist in the commissioning and startup of BESS systems, including functional testing and troubleshooting to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed project documentation, including technical reports, as-built drawings, and project closeout documents.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, regulatory agencies, and local authorities, to facilitate project approvals, permitting, and other necessary processes.

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience with energy management systems (EMS), power conversion systems (PCS), and grid interconnection.
  • Familiarity with permitting processes for large-scale energy projects.
  • Knowledge of battery technologies (e.g., Lithium-Ion, Flow Batteries) and their applications in energy storage systems.
  • Project estimating experience
  • Prior experience with utility scale solar
  • Language Skills:
  • English – Fluent
  • Spanish - (Advantage)
  • Hebrew – (Advantage)

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in project engineering or construction management, preferably within the energy sector or a related industry.
  • Knowledge of utility-scale energy storage systems, renewable energy integration, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with engineering design software, project management tools, and construction management software.
  • Strong understanding of relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEEE, IEC).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate between multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed (20-40%)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to work in an office environment.
  • This job requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time with moderate bending, stooping and kneeling.
  • The ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for long periods of time and stay alert.
  • This position requires sitting 80% of the time and standing and walking 20% of the time.
  • Must have the ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.
